The Start

November 8th, it was an exceptionally cold day. It was so cold that even the scent of Miss Asahina's tea wouldn't have woken up my sense of smell. Today wasn't a schoolday, but I went to school anyway.

Why you ask?

Because Haruhi called another meeting in the club room. While not open for normal student's, Haruhi managed to get a special keycard from the principal in exchange for cleaning service.

Guess whose job was to do that.

Yep, bingo...me.

I guess I don't mind so much, theres always Asahina and the others that aren't kooked up out of their minds.

While I actually was going to turn her down at first, I went ahead and accepted anyway. Not that she was really offering. You see, about two years ago I became a protector of the galaxy.

Don't believe me, that's fine. The thing is though, Haruhi...that hyperactive, ambitious, pretty young girl is actually some form of deity.

Of course she doesn't realize it, as she is out of the loop on that and if she would ever find out, chances are we would all cease to exist due to her resetting the world to accommodate her need for adventure.

The other protectors of the universe are Mikuru Asahina, a time traveler sent to watch Haruhi. Yuki Nagato, some kind of alien life form sent here by some entity to study Haruhi and Koizumi, who is an esper that works for an organization of espers simply known as The Organization.

So I went to the clubroom and am greeted not by Mikuru, Nagato and Koizumi...no, these were some other people that I've never met. Haruhi sat in the chair in front of the clubroom computer with a smile on her face, like this was all part of one of her schemes.

"Kyon! You made it!" she yelled out as she saw.

"Yeah, uhm...where are the others and who are these people?"

"Well I didn't call the others in, just you"

I was confused, several more answers were going to be needed to satisfy my curiosity at that moment.

"And these are Jordan, Donnie & Anna" she said, pointing at each one individually as she said their names.

Jordan seemed like a decent enough guy. He had dark blonde hair and wore some kind of hat. Donnie was a rather attractive redheaded girl, her green eyes especially drew me in and I caught myself staring at her for a bit. The second girl Anna was a small and petite brunette, probably no older than say 13 or 14 years old. A noticeable feature of hers, something was hard to avoid was her bow.

Not many girls her age these days wear bows. In fact, these people didn't really to seem to fit in with our typical Japanese school society. They kind of seemed like foreigners or at least not from this part of town.

"So what are they doing here and why did you just call me on our day off?"

"It's simple Kyon, I wanted you to meet these three. You know hang out with them" she said and then came over to me and whispered: "I think they are not from this world. Travelers from another world"

It has become the norm for Haruhi to kidnap random people and assume strange facts about them. Hell, how do you think this club was founded? But at any rate, what I did notice and almost enjoyed too much was the warm breath of Haruhi's dancing upon my cold skin.

It was a very awkward, yet intimate moment or that might just be me talking.

"So, why are we here again?" Jordan asked.

"I want you to become temporary members of the SOS Brigade" Haruhi answered quickly, turning around and smiling at Jordan.

"The SOS Brigade?" Donnie asked with a skeptical tone.

"Yes, the Spreading Excitement all Over the World with Suzumiya Haruhi Brigade"

"And what does this brigade accomplish ? " Jordan asked, obviously checking out Haruhi.

"Well, we look for all things weird and supernatural" Haruhi answered, so cheerfully that she could've woken up a dead puppy.

"No thanks, we've gotten enough of that already now you'll excuse us" Donnie said, preparing to leave.

"No, you don't get it. You are travelers from another world, so you must be unbelievably cool and out of the ordinary and look at you all cute" She then proceeded to hug Donnie inappropriatly as she usually would've done with Mikuru. Perhaps she is just desperate to dominate women, but that's besides the point.

"Leave her alone" Jordan yelled at Haruhi.

Haruhi got startled and let Donnie go, to which she responded by running past me out of the room. While all of this was happening Anna just sat there looking at all the books that we had in the literary club room. She had a kind of Nagato vibe about her, but it was still obvious that she had emotions.

Jordan ran after Donnie into the cold streets of Japan, leaving only me, Haruhi & Anna to be in the room.

A few months ago we put in a mattress in order to lay and sit on for when the chairs got too uncomfortable. Haruhi got that the same way we got the computer, by exploiting poor Mikuru.

At any rate, Anna went on the mattress and just started to doze off. So, for once being responsible Haruhi figured we couldn't leave a young teenager alone here over night. In light of that we decided to stay there with her. Haruhi slept on the table with some pillows from the lounge and I slept on the floor.

It sounds bad but Haruhi was at least nice enough to give me a pillow and a blanket. She was hesitant though and teased me about it.

So that was my evening, but somehow I had a hunch that this was far from over. If being around Haruhi has taught me anything is always suspect the worst.
